A digital guitar phase shifter makes a very complicated frequency response. This response contains a lot of normal spaced notches. These notches are combined with themselves out of phase. The type of effect you get here is sort of a foosh or woosh sound. It sounds like a plane sort of. This type of device was popular in the hippie era, in the 1970s.
