Guitar Lessons
Guitar lessons offer a wide range of possibilities for the people who want to learn to play guitar. Available options can be divided into two main categories - live and recorded guitar lessons. In the first case, you are taught by a "live" teacher, whether you see them in person, or whether they instruct you remotely, being located thousands of miles away from you. In the second case, you get a "recorded" teacher, who you can watch on any computer or TV screen. Obviously, there are advantages and disadvantages to both, live and recorded lessons.
Live lessons will provide you with one very important aspect - once a question arises within your course; you can get an answer to it. Moreover, if you pay for your course in advance, you have an incentive to keep attending it to completion. You will get yet more freedom and more individual attention with one-on-one courses, but obvious reasons make individual courses yet more expensive in comparison to classes. The disadvantages of such courses are their inconvenience and cost. Attended courses require you to factor them into your busy everyday schedule, as well as they are quite expensive. The aforementioned disadvantages have resulted in the real-time courses rapidly losing their popularity.
Recorded courses are much more affordable than attended courses, as well as they provide you with a completely flexible schedule. If you have a busy and stressful timetable, there's no better way to learn guitar than with a recorded course. However, you will need to have a considerably strong willpower to squeeze time out for your lessons, and to complete your course. Moreover, most recorded courses will not provide you with a way to get your questions answered by a tutor. The rare exception is courses that have a user community with teachers and students elaborating on various aspects of the lessons (e.g., the Learn and Master Guitar course).
Guitar lessons that you choose to help you in learning guitar will have a significant impact on your success. One of the worst options is trying to learn guitar without using any structured set of lessons whatsoever. If there is no defined system, you can simply get discouraged and give up in the end. Can you imagine trying to learn a language without someone or something to assist you? It would be nearly impossible to achieve success, and the same is true with learning guitar.
Learning guitar involves a lot of practice and dedication. To be successful in your endeavor, you need to ask yourself whether you will stick to a recorded course, or whether you will be better off with a teacher guiding you through the whole process. If you know that you do have enough self-discipline to go through the course from its start to finish, then there's nothing more convenient and affordable than complete recorded guitar lessons with DVDs, CDs, printed materials, and on-line user communities.
